Ishwarya's Work

Ishwarya

Ishwarya Ravi, born in 1987 in Abu Dhabi, U.A.E., is a British abstract expressionist artist of Indian heritage, known for her richly textured and emotionally charged paintings. A self-taught artist, she explores themes of human emotion, perception, and spirituality through her work. Her canvases act as immersive fields of raw emotion, where layered marks, luminous colour, and gestural rhythms capture the immediacy and uncontainable nature of human experience.

Working with mixed media, Ishwarya embraces the materiality of paint, allowing texture, density, and transparency to guide the evolution of each piece. Her art examines spirituality and selfhood, aiming to express the innermost workings of the soul. She employs brushes, palette knives, and unconventional tools to create a dialogue between sweeping gestures and delicate traces. The interplay between control and release, accident and intention, lies at the heart of her style. Her work focuses not on depiction but on experience, offering a visceral translation of inner states.

Inspired by the emotional force in Joan Mitchell’s paintings, Ishwarya found the courage to move beyond form and embrace feeling. Mitchell’s fearless brushwork and unfiltered energy reflected Ishwarya’s own desire to communicate through colour, gesture, and movement. As an abstract expressionist, she paints not what is seen, but what is sensed.Ishwarya seeks to create a space where viewers can connect with the raw core of human emotion beyond words and conventional boundaries. Her art invites feeling rather than offering answers, encouraging engagement with joy, grief, tension, and wonder. Through expression, she hopes to inspire vulnerability, reflection, and recognition of one’s own emotional landscape.

Her work has been featured in various emerging artist showcases, including open calls and juried exhibitions such as The Holy Art Gallery in 2023, Women in Art Fair in 2024, The Mall Gallery in 2024, Cent Magazine in 2024, and the 14th edition of Artist Closeup Magazine in 2024.

Ishwarya's life experiences aspires her work to serve as a mirror for authenticity and a catalyst for empathy. Her ultimate goal is to shift perception, both of art and of ourselves, fostering a deeper understanding of humanity in all its contradictions, imperfections, and beauty.
